Riding in the Blue Ridge

Horseback riding in the Blue Ridge is special, and you certainly don’t have to be an experienced rider to enjoy a trek into the forest, because your horse will know where it’s supposed to go, even if you don’t.

Only 15 minutes from the cabin, near the Mast General Store, you can rent horses, for one hour or all day. Children are required to wear helmets, and if they have never ridden before they are tethered to an instructor.

We expected a steady ride along flat trails and were surprised to immediately find ourselves crossing a small stream and heading for the hills, and soon at a much higher elevation.
